Ask about lessonsAbout Josh
Josh began taking private drumset lessons at age five. In middle school, he played concert percussion and drumset in jazz band. He continued in high school as a member of the concert band, marching band, and jazz band. While in high school, he began giving private lessons to middle school students and assisted the Palm Harbor Middle School percussion section. He has taught percussion throughout the Tampa Bay area since 2010.
Josh began marching on fourth bass drum and moved to snare for his final three years of high school, performing in both the indoor and outdoor programs. He later marched snare with Brahma Percussion in WGI’s Percussion Independent Open class, the UCF Drumline, and Bay Area Percussion in Percussion Independent A.
He has taught battery, front ensemble, concert percussion, and private lessons at East Lake, Gaither, and Countryside high schools. At East Lake, he wrote the outdoor battery book for three seasons and helped establish the school’s FFCC concert percussion program. At Gaither, he served as the head battery instructor under the percussion caption head for both the outdoor and indoor seasons.
At Countryside, Josh helped rebuild a program that began with four battery members and three students in the front ensemble. It grew to approximately 35–40 performers, including about 25 musicians and a 12-member visual ensemble, with a percussion staff of six. The group placed second in AA. Josh wrote the drill for its first indoor season.
His responsibilities have included show design, staff coordination, rehearsal and competition scheduling, parent communication, booster collaboration, transportation, and equipment logistics. He also coordinated the program’s annual overnight trip to FFCC finals in Daytona. During Josh’s time with the programs, East Lake and Countryside competed at WGI and advanced from prelims to finals—each program’s first WGI appearance in decades.
Other experience: Josh continues to perform on drumset with regional bands, for live and paid choir engagements, in recording sessions, and with his own projects. He has also performed on snare with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Drumline and at Civil War reenactments. He is an Eagle Scout.
